‘Milk Harvest’ is an example of Davies’s enjoyment of narrative building. Here you are presented with a scene that could be a frame from a dark fairy tale. This particular narrative is inspired by the concept of trophic levels, defined as the position of an organism in the food chain. Thanks to our large brain capacity humans have been able to avoid being prey to animals, however our actual physical defences are quite weak. We have no spines to protect us, no armoured plates of skin; even man’s best friend could see us as prey they wanted to.
