What strikes me as excitingly paradoxical is the seamless integration of sentimental elements into works inherently crafted by machines and digitally manipulated. Vinyl, epoxy, and polyurethane varnish, artificial in essence, wrap my works in a protective embrace as well as serve as the main building material. While these materials can be painfully practical, used for conservation purposes mostly, their inherent corrosiveness reminds me of the aggressive nature of our contemporary approaches to preserving memories and documenting history. It’s an era dominated by instant photographic replication and seemingly impeccable documentation. There is little room for the nuanced act of repositioning ourselves within the historical narrative, a narrative often broadcasted to us distorted or flattened, lacking the complexity of human participation.
